An Overview of Assistant Medical Jobs

If you are looking for a career in the caring profession of medicine consider becoming a medical assistant. There will always be a need for qualified people to fill assistant medical jobs. However you cannot just walk in off the street and expect to be hired for such a position – medical assistants must undergo education and training before they are permitted to work in their chosen field. There are many different tasks medical assistants may be called upon to perform, which is why it helps to educate yourself on your possible job duties before deciding if this career is for you.

There is all kind of medical assistant information on the Internet. However exactly what you are allowed to do may vary from state to state, for example a CA medical assistant may have different permissions than an assistant in another state. Often assistants perform both clerical and medical duties as part of their everyday work. They may be involved in tasks like maintaining patient records, taking appointments and even answering telephones. Other duties may include drawing of blood, reading of temperature, sterilizing doctor's tools and more.

While it is possible to start off in an entry level position in a medical facility and be trained for medical assisting jobs, it is more likely you will need to get your education at a vocational school or other program, such as a 1 or 2 year college. You'll learn everything necessary to fulfill basic job duties. You may take classes on human anatomy, biology, psychology, medical billing, computer programs used in the medical field and much more. Your education will be varied, and you will probably want to land an internship so you can gain real-world experience.

After you have all the educational qualifications required to work in an assistant medical job, the next step is finding one. It may be as simple as checking your local Help Wanted classified ads. If there are no jobs in the newspaper, try sending a resume and cover letter to doctor's offices, hospitals or anywhere else you'd like to work in an attempt to market yourself. You can also utilize online job boards which many employers are using these days because of the affordability and convenience. It is important you learn interviewing skills and present yourself well as medical assistants must be good at working with people.
